Obituary of Sylvester Rowland

Sylvester passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

To his family and friends he was known as "Vest".

Vest was employed 13 years with the State of NC as a Ground Maintenance employee. He enjoyed the outdoors, he would rather be outdoors then in any building. He loved to dance and always cracking jokes. He was very popular with the kids; they loved themselves some "Uncle Vest".

He was the one who was always called to babysit his nieces, nephews and even his grand nieces and nephews. He helped raise 3 generations of the Rowland family. Every time he saw you, he always had a story to tell even if it was the same one over and over. He is loved by a large family and even larger extended family and will be truly missed.

Sylvester was born on May 21, 1943 to the late Maylon and Viola Rowland. The father of the late Donzell Benett, the brother of the late Virginia Williams, the late Willie Evans, and the late Rosa Lee Bridges. He leaves to cherish his memories, his sons Maylon Rowland , Victor Rowland, two grandchildren, his sister Della Rowland(Darnell), his brothers Herbert Rowland(Annie), and Bobby Rowland (Ellen). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. Sylvester will remain in the heart of his close friend Mr. Wallace.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Wesleyan First Church of Deliverance, 1201 Boyer Street, Raleigh, NC 27610.
