Sylvia Moreen Senior, age 96, was called home on April 29th, 2017 at 4:00 pm. She was born in New York City on February 3rd, 1921 to Sylvester and Annie Banfield. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marilyn "Angel" Cobb, one sister, Pearl Johannes and three brothers, Leo, Wilfred, and Bertell Banfield.
Sylvia was a warm, loving, and caring person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Family was her life. She was a nurse at Bellevue Hospital for over 30 years specializing in the care of abused infants. Sylvia loved her job so much, she often became attached to the children she cared for, treating them as if they were family. Her bond with one particular baby was so strong she stayed at the hospital for three continuous days to care for her. When she went home to freshen up the baby girl passed away. Sylvia's heart was absolutely broken due to the loss and her grief was apparent to all. That is proof of her passion and dedication to the care of others.
Upon retiring, she moved to Raleigh to be closer to her daughter. She loved traveling and seeing the world. Cruises were her preferred method of travel.
When she became ill in August she was taken to Pruitt Health where she remained until her passing. Sylvia lived life to the fullest and will be truly missed.
She leaves to treasure her memory a granddaughter, Jacqueline Bailey, grandson-in-law, Kenneth Bailey, two great grandchildren, Carl Bailey and Crystal Darlington, three great-great grandchildren, Kyra Bailey, Zaverion Warren, Avion Brown, as well as one step daughter, Genevieve Guadalupe, two step grandchildren, Jarvis Cromwell and Nizevia Newton, one step great grandson, Nizaiah Hodgson, one adopted son, James Wells, and one best friend, Rena Frazier. She also leaves to treasure her memories a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Montlawn Funeral Home chapel.
