Obituary

Mrs. Barbour passed away on January 21 at 89 years old after years of declining health. She was called Doug most of her life until she was about 62 when she wanted to be called Tabitha. She grew up in Raleigh and was married to Edward Barbour for 61 years. Ed was chief maintenance supervisor for Wake County for many years, and prior to that was in charge of maintenance at the former Sir Walter Hotel. Tabitha worked at Westinghouse for 30 years and upon her retirement, they relocated to Atlantic Beach for 16 years. After returning to Raleigh she lived at the Gardens of Wakefield apartments until her health prevented her from living alone. At the time she moved in with her daughter Sue who worked tirelessly taking wonderful care of her. Glenn, Sue and their spouses were truly devoted to their mother. The family would like to thank her Hospice workers for the wonderful care they gave her. Tabitha was always known for her spitfire personality. Tabitha was predeceased by her husband Ed and brother Jim Earp. She is survived by her two children Linda Sue Barbour Cottrell Hicks (Kenneth) and Glenn Barbour (Betty); sister-in-law Birgitt Earp; seven grandchildren Davis (Mandi), Shawn and Patrick Cotttrell, Nichole (Keith) Noblin; Jonathan (Emily), Chadwick and Jarrett Barbour; nine great-grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, and two great- great grandsons. Visitation will be at Montlawn Funeral Home, Saturday January 28, 2017 from 11:30am-12:30pm followed by graveside service.
