Ted Baccus Silver, age 102, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and community impact.
Born on September 23, 1923, in Bandana, Ted lived a long and accomplished life marked by hard work and commitment to those around him. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant while working as a diesel engineer. His technical skill and discipline carried into his civilian career, where he worked as a Diesel Engineer for International Harvester before continuing his career with Standard Oil.
Ted met his first wife, Delores, during his early years, as she worked for Standard Oil. Their relationship led him to join the company, where he continued to build his professional life.
A dedicated member of his community, Ted founded the Civitan Club in Garner and devoted time to supporting several orphanages, particularly those serving young boys. His contributions reflected his belief in helping others and giving back where it mattered most.
Outside of his work, Ted enjoyed golf, woodworking, and card games, including poker, bridge, and blackjack. For over 30 years, he hosted a weekly poker club, building lasting friendships along the way.
Ted was known for his likable and outgoing nature, his ability to connect with anyone, and his sharp mind for business and mathematics.
He is survived by his children, Ken Silver, Daryl Silver, and Sherry Silver. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Marlinda Silver and Cathay Silver.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.
Ted Baccus Silver will be remembered for his lifelong dedication, his contributions to his community, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
