Obituary of Thelma Adkins
Thelma Adkins, 76, passed away Sunday night, December 21, 2014 at Wake Med Raleigh after complications from a stroke. She was born June 5, 1938 in Orlando, Florida. She lived in Cary, NC for the last four years after living in Florissant, MO for the previous 49 years. She was the daughter of the late Obee and Leila Stephens. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Norman Adkins. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Essie Moore and Ossie Wynn. Thelma is survived by her son Matt Adkins (Anne Marie); daughter Jenaye Clark (Brian); sisters Juaneva Jordan (Luther), Mary Edmundson, Sylvia Cason; 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma was a graduate of Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. She retired from the St. Louis Public School System after working four decades as a Kindergarten teacher. She also spent four decades teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed spending time with friends, wearing purple, going to church events, and in her later years was quite a fan of the Hallmark Channel and crossword puzzles. She was most recently a member of the Christ Our King Community Church in Raleigh, NC. First Baptist Church of Chesterfield, MO and Antioch Baptist Church St. Louis, MO were her previous church homes. All of her family and friends will miss her infectious smile and spirit of gratefulness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 2 pm at Christ Our King Community Church located at 1500 Garner Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610. Visitation will be at 1pm at the church.
