Obituary of Thomas Byrd

Thomas Stancil Byrd, 86, of Raleigh, died Wednesday afternoon, September 16, 2009.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

A native of Wake County, Thomas was the son of the late William McKinley Byrd and Eliza Mae Gower Byrd. He was an adjuster with Kemper Insurance for many years before retiring from the North Carolina Dept. of Motor Vehicles. Thomas was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Peggy Tice Byrd; sons, Thomas S. Byrd, Jr. and wife Pat, James E. Byrd and wife Brenda, both of Winston-Salem, David C. Byrd and wife Michelle of Apex, Daryl D. Byrd of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Jim, Lisa, Cheryl and Derrick; seven great grandchildren; brother, William M. Byrd, Jr. and wife Virginia of Raleigh and his sister, Rebecca Bullock of Rocky Mount.
