Obituary of Thomas Hammond
Thomas Walter Hammond, 73, of Huntington, IN, passed peacefully on Friday, February 10th at 10:00 AM after a courageous battle with cancer at his Son's home in Youngsville, NC. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.
Tom Hammond graduated from Huntington High School, and is a United States Air Force veteran.
Tom retired from Huntington County Schools and continued to work there until his untimely death. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Eagles.
He was born May 19th, 1938, in Huntington, IN, to Paul David. and Mary Lucille Hammond. He married Louella Hahn on Dec 1st 1957 . She preceded him in death on Dec 2nd 2010.
Survivors include his son, Thomas W. Hammond Jr (wife Missy), of Youngsville, NC; Grandchildren, Jazmyn Hammond, Jaidyn Hammond, Brandon Hammond, Angie Romanos (husband Tony). Great-grandchildren Alexis and Ava Romanos; Brothers, Paul (Gene) Hammond, Charles Hammond: Sisters, Patricia Fox and Mary Westendorf (deceased). He was preceded in death by a daughter Sheila Kay Hammond. Tom never met a stranger and was always willing to help out so in addition to his family he leaves a host of friends that loved and will miss him.
Burial will be Saturday Feb, 18th, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Gardens of Memory 11201 South Marion Road 35 Marion IN, with Pastor Tom Bradley officiating and the VFW Post 2689 performing military graveside rites. There will be a remembrance reception at the Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church, 1131 Etna Ave Huntington, IN. from 11:30-2:00.
