Obituary of Thomas Walker

Thomas Jerry Walker, 74, of Cary, died Friday morning, July 10, 2009 at Rex Hospital.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 - 9 p.m. Sunday.

A native of Harnett County, Jerry was born on May 28, 1935, the son of the late Luther Thomas Walker and Ida Rachel Clayton Walker. He was a 1953 graduate of Bethesda High School in Durham and attended North Carolina State University and was a captain in the Army National Guard.

Jerry worked for Electrical Equipment Company for over 38 years ultimately becoming CEO. He led the company with great integrity and the company flourished under his caring leadership. He was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh and Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham. Jerry was best known as a caring husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. Everyone loved his quick wit and sense of humor along with his story telling ability. He was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away early on July 10 due to his failing health after many battles with heart disease and cancer.

His greatest loves were his wife, Marie Lowery Walker who preceded him in death and his current wife, Lillian Leathers Walker; daughters, Lori Newkirk and her husband Bud, Susan Fisher and her husband John and his most valued treasures, his grandchildren, Whit, Tom, Cullen and Olivia.

He is also survived by his sisters, Faye Lanier and her husband Chinnis, Margaret Dunn; brother, Ronald Walker; stepsons, Mickey, Larry and Randall Leathers as well as his step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
