U.S. Air Force Ret. Samuel Paul Forbes, Jr. 89, of Selma, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House, in Smithfield, North Carolina.

He Was born on September 10, 1936, in Washington, North Carolina.

Samuel was a retired U.S. Air Force MSGT, serving both in the U.S. Marine’s and the U.S. Air Force.

He loved to travel with his wife and family. Moments with his wife Barbara and family were the utmost importance. Dining out with his wife brought much enjoyment to him. He loved their time together creating everlasting memories. Samuel loved his dog “Cowboy”.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents Samuel P. Forbes  and Gladys M. Forbes.

Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Forbes, of Selma; a son Samuel Cullen Forbes (Julie), of Oklahoma; two stepsons Kenneth Woodard (Cathy) and Ashley Woodard (Marcie).

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Lankford, Kristin Forbes, Hannah Woodard, Christian Woodard, Ashlyn Woodard, Jodi Grace Woodard.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Montlawn Memorial Park, with the rendering of full military honors by Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
