Violet Mae Byrum Matthews passed away at 89 years of age on July 14, 2018. Visitation will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home Friday, July 20 ^th from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.

Violet Matthews was born in Raleigh, NC to the late Jack & Violet Byrum on June 5, 1929. She was a 1948 graduate of Hugh Morson HS. Violet married J. Stacy Matthews on June 19th, 1949 who preceded her in death on July 18th, 2013. Her favorite job was as WMU Secretary for the Baptist State Convention from 1986-96.

She is survived by 3 children, sons Daniel Stacy Mathews, Jack Byrum Matthews & wife Angie and daughter Brenda Bernell Matthews Csolak & husband Ronald; two sisters, Mary Conyers and Dorothy Banks; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

We will remember a life fully lived, filled with laughter and love.
