RALEIGH

Virgil Carl Jones, age 86 of Raleigh, N.C. went home to be with Jesus on August 5, 2021, after an extended illness.  He was born August 19, 1934, in Boone County, W.V.

He was an Eagle Scout, Army Veteran, Morris Harvey College Graduate and retiree of the Federal Highway Administration.  He was also a longtime member, deacon and missionary of Athens Drive Baptist Church.  Virgil was preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Flettice Jones.  He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 68 years, Lois Jane Jones, son, Steven (Barbara) or Wake Forest, daughters, Mary (David) of Fuquay Varina, Jennifer (Robert) of Wake Forest and Norma (Richard) of Raleigh, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and sisters, Frankie and Phyllis of Ohio.  His greatest blessings were his family and he was lovingly called Daddy, Papaw and sweetheart.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 14, 2021 at Athens Drive Baptist Church, 1601 Athens Drive Raleigh, N.C. 27606.
