Obituary

Virginia Garner Mann, 96

Of Raleigh went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 18, 2026. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Mildred Simpkins Garner and Gordon Lancelot Garner, husband Manly Glenwood Mann, Jr, sister Jean Garner Meekins and brother Gordon Lee Garner, Sr.

A native and lifelong resident of Raleigh, Virginia graduated from Hugh Morson High School and was a graduate of Peace College where she majored in art. She was an accomplished portrait artist, working many years for Siddell Studio and later Burnie Bachelor Studio. She had an immense love of golf. She had many accomplishments in the sport including becoming the five-time Raleigh/Wake County Lady Champion, four-time Raleigh Country Club Lady Champion and three-time Tar Heel League Champion. She also competed in the 1955 National Amateur Women’s Championship tournament. Her love for landscaping and gardening led her to complete many horticulture courses at NC State University. Virginia lived a full life and will be missed by many.

  • She Married Manly Glenwood Mann, Jr, in May of 1960 and celebrated 27 years of marriage before his passing in November of 1987.  They had two children, Gregory Glenwood Mann (wife-Ginger) and Jeffery Glenwood Mann(wife-Susan). Virginia was blessed with four grandchildren; Morgan, Benjamin, Avery and Evan Mann.

The family wishes to express our gratitude to Virginia's caregivers from Perpetual Home Care for all they did to support her in recent years.
