Obituary

Virginia Terrell (Jean), a cherished member of the Raleigh, North Carolina community transitioned peacefully on March 30, 2025 at the age of 63. Born on October 24, 1961 in Raleigh, Jean's life was a testament to her deep faith, dedication to her family, and commitment to her community.

Jean graduated from Millbrook High School and continued her education at St. Augustine's College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Her academic achievements were a source of pride which laid the foundation for her professional endeavors and community service.

Despite facing many challenges in her life Jean remained resilient and persevered through it all. She was a fighter and her unwavering faith in God is an inspiration to us all.

Her commitment to her faith was evident in her participation in various roles at Faith Missionary Baptist Church including as an Usher, where she greeted every parishioner with an inviting warmth. Her belief in service extended beyond the Church doors. She was also a former dedicated member of the Charmettes, a community organization that brought her much joy and fulfillment.

Jean's life was enriched by her loving family. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, relative, and friend to many. She is survived by her devoted husband, William Gregory Terrell Sr., affectionately known as Big Greg, and their son, William Gregory Terrell Jr., known as Lil Greg (Amanda), who was the light of her life. Her family bonds extended to her siblings: sisters Vonda Baker, Rosa Baker, Constance Taylor (Frank), and Benita Banks, brothers Bobby Banks (Marie-who was her bonus Mom), Darnell Baker, and Cleveland Baker (Miriam), as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Carlton Winters, Thomas Ryal, Leon Baker, and her sister Margie Chavis, all of whom she held close to her heart. Her parents, Utah Baker and Rosa Winters, also predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience that Jean carried forward.

Jean's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the memories and lives of those she touched. Her dedication to her family, faith, and community will be remembered with admiration and respect.

In this time of mourning, the family finds solace in the love and support of friends and community members. They invite those who wish to honor Jean's memory to do so by embodying the values she held dear: faith, service, and love for one another.
