Wade Daniel "Danny" Hampton, Jr.
September 16, 1944 – February 28, 2024.

Danny, 79, left this earthly world to be with his Lord and Savior while at home with his loving and dedicated wife Rose by his side. He was born in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, an only child to his loving parents Wade D. Hampton, Sr., and Ruth E. Hampton. He graduated from the NC State School for the Blind (later renamed Governor Morehead School for the Blind) in 1964 and completed his education in electronics engineering at the W.W. Holding Institute (later renamed Wake Technical Community College) in 1966. While attending the School for the Blind, Danny met several sighted friends who were involved in the amateur radio community, and he began attending several radio club meetings with them in Raleigh. As a result, he became licensed as an amateur radio operator at the age of 12 despite a requirement that an operator must be able to read, copy, and send Morse code, all of which he learned by ear. Danny was known to the amateur radio community by his call sign, K4ITL. He was known for his keen intellect when it came to problem-solving, especially with all things electronic. He was brilliant electronics engineer who not only repaired radio systems but also built many different types of them, including two-way radios, high-frequency radio systems, and radio repeater systems. Danny was a decades- long contract engineer for WRAL-TV in Raleigh where he delighted in the opportunity to climb up the 2,000-foot TV tower in Garner, NC, to troubleshoot or make equipment repairs. Danny made his enthusiastic
last climb in October 2023 at the age of 79. His endless dedication, mentoring, and expertise in ALL things HAM radio will never be forgotten. He was the recipient of many amateur radio awards and accolades, including being recognized as "HAM of the Year," a national award given yearly to a HAM radio operator of distinction. Danny was a man of many affectionate nicknames to all the people he loved and who loved him: "Big Boy" (a name given to him many years ago by his son Keith), Daddy, Uncle Danny, Papa, Papa Danny, Pop Danny and Dan. He loved and gave of himself fiercely, irrevocably, and unconditionally. When you were in his circle, you were in his circle forever. Danny was preceded in death by his loving parents Wade D. and Ruth Hampton, and his first wife Sandra Hampton. Danny is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rose Johnson Hampton. He is also survived by his children: Keith Hampton (Debbie) of Rolesville, North Carolina, and Lynn Thomas (Jon) of Lillington, North Carolina, Tamara Carr of Garner, North Carolina, Kevin Nunnery (Ashley) of Youngsville, North Carolina, Brian Crocker (Michelle) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Curtis Staggs of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Kathryn Westcott (Michael) of Snow Camp, North Carolina. Danny also leaves behind grandchildren: Jessica Eubanks (Timothy), Kristin Walczak, Alex Carr (Jane), Amy Collins (Shawn), Josh Nunnery, Nathaniel Thomas, Brendon and Jacob Crocker, and Courtney, Christopher, and Cooper Westcott. Danny was also blessed with five greatgrandchildren: Skye, Cheyenne, Kayla, Storm and Chance. Niece Tina prince (Eddie) Willow Springs North Carolina. Nephew Jeff Atkins Wake Forest. North Carolina.

Danny will be greatly missed, always loved, and cherished by all who knew him for the great man he
was. We rejoice and give praise that Danny is in the presence of God, has been made whole, and is now able to fully gaze upon the face of
God.
