Obituary of Ward Burgess

Ward M. Burgess, II, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Fuquay-Varina, Friday, June 11, 2010.

Family will receive friends from10:00 to 11:00am, Tuesday, June 15th at Montlawn Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00am in Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Private inurnment in Montlawn Memorial Park, Chapel of Memories will be held at a later date.

Ward was born in Omaha, Nebraska, December 5, 1921 to the late Lewis and Rose Burgess. After serving in the Navy during WWII, Pacific and Atlantic, Ward worked for Chevy Chase Club in Washington, DC for 38 years. Ward was a golf pro, member of the PGA and a golf teacher for 60 years. He was an avid gardener for most of his life especially after retirement.

Ward is survived by his loving wife, Emma Burgess; Son, Ward M. Burgess, III, wife Debra of Wisconsin; daughter, Suzanne Holiday Burgess of Raleigh, NC; step-daughters, Catherine Godfrey, husband William "Colt" of Raleigh, NC, Vera Schiaffo of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, David Burgess, Matthew Burgess, Nicole "Nikki" Cole , husband, Dave of Seattle, WA, Ashley Meyer, husband Tyson of Blaine, WA; step-granddaughter, Christina Heffel Peek, husband Brandon of Charlotte, NC; great grandson, Liam Meyer. Ward is predeceased by his daughter, "Terry" Theresa Burgess; brother, Lewis H. Burgess; sister, Rose Mary "Sue" Burgess.
