Obituary of Weldon Denny
Weldon Baxter Denny, 88, of Raleigh, passed away Tuesday morning, December 2, 2014 at Rex Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 25, 1926 in Surry County, NC, he was the son of the late Elder George and Mae Ashburn Denny. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Sue Lane Denny; brothers, Blume, Aubrey, Clayton, Claude, Oscar, Grey, and Wayne; sisters, Hedy, Lela, and Bernice.
Prior to 1947, Weldon was a farmer before joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He worked in its county, state, and federal offices, including a period as State Director, what is now the Farm Service Agency. Weldon was also executive assistant to Governor Robert Scott. In the mid 1970's, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Labor. Denny joined the state Department of Agriculture under Commissioner Jim Graham in 1982 and retired in 2003.
Weldon is survived by his son, Rick Denny and his wife Judy; grandchildren, Jamie Thomasson, David Swanay, and Christy Swanay; great grandchild, Kayden Faith Thomasson; god-children, Mathew and Justin Yang; and special niece, Jean Denny; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m, Friday, December 5, 2014 at Forest Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The Denny Family would like to extend their gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff on Floor 5 West at Rex Hospital, Dr. Steven Liebowitz and his nurse Laurie for their care and compassion, and Norma Evans for her care and devotion given to Weldon during his illness.
