Welesley Spencer was born on Sunday January 1, 1922 and peacefully departed this life on Thursday April 7, 2016 at the age of 94.
Welesley was a devoted and honorable husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone that knew him. His smile, sense of humor, and genuine love for others shined brightly throughout his life. At an early age he developed a true understanding of hard work, education, and the importance of family which he passed down to his children. His greatest achievements occurred with the success of his business and watching his children and grandchildren complete their college education. He was no stranger to hard work but he knew how to relax on the weekends. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and bowling with the family. He also loved to travel to places such as Florida, back home to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands during his retirement years.
Welesley leaves behind many loved ones to cherish his memories: his loving wife of over 63 years, Lisant Spencer; one daughter, Edris McNeill of Garner, NC (James); two sons, Edgar (Bob) Spencer of Manlius, NY (Patricia) and Locksley Spencer of Garner, NC (Cassandra); seven grandchildren, Paulette Burnside (Cyril), Melissa McNeill, Patrice Robertson (Antonio), Diana Spencer, Robert Spencer, Alan Spencer, and Jocelyn Spencer; great grandchildren, Dennis McNeill (Shaquira), Edris Harrison (Hilbert), Cyrelle Burnside, Jasmine Gorham, and Kendall Robertson; great-great grandchildren, Camden McNeill and Kennedy McNeill and a host of family and friends.
A service to celebrate Welesley's life will be held on Saturday April 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel 2911 S. Wilmington Street Raleigh NC 27603. Services will be officiated by Pastor G. Maxwell Jones.
