Willard Eugene Shaw, 88, passed away on June 9, 2011. A Funeral Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Carrow) Shaw, three children: stepson, Wallace Grant and wife Barbara, daughter, Linda Cullip and husband, Tim, and son, Willard Shaw, Jr. and wife, Michelle, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shaw was born on August 29, 1922 in Jackson Township, Highland County, Ohio. He was the son of Fred C. Shaw and Louie Genevieve Post. He entered the Army/ Air Force Reserves in October 1942 and was called to active duty in February 1943. Upon graduating from pilot training in December 1943 he flew combat missions in Korea during the Korean War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oakleaf Clusters and the Army Commendation Ribbon. He proudly served 23 years in the military and retired in 1965. He and his wife then settled in Winter Park, Fl., where he worked as a teacher and then guidance counselor from 1969 to 1985. He genuinely loved flying and this is where his Aviation Explorer leadership came into place. He donated his time and skills for youth and worked with the Experimental Aircraft Association.
