Obituary of William Banks

William Thane Banks, 89, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2011 at Rex Health Care.

Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

A native of Carteret County, William was born May 16, 1921, the son of Otis M. Banks and Ella N. Banks. He served in World War II in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Greenville Fire Department and served as Past Master of Raleigh Lodge #500, A.F. & A.M. William retired from the equipment depot of the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation.

William is survived by his two daughters, Marsha Banks Brande, Vicky Banks Brann and her husband John; all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Amy M. Brande, Mathew T. Griner and his wife Heather, Heather N. Brande, Kristy B. Hicks and her husband Jason, J. Tyler Brann; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Kayla, Lexi, Allie, Kailey, and Parker and his canine friends, Brody, Lilly and Tux. William was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Banks and a daughter, Donna Banks Dease.
