Obituary of William Brown
William Allen Brown, 59, of Raleigh, died Saturday, February 4, 2012.
A Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 at The Montpelier Center for Arts & Education, 17205 Mountain Rd. Montpelier, VA 23192.
A native of Orange, Virginia, Allen was born April 10, 1952, the son of the late William Earl and Helen Carr Brown. He was a land surveyor which was not only his profession but his passion as well. He collected old surveying equipment and books by George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Lewis & Clark due to their historical land surveys and was an avid ballroom dancer and country dancer. He was well known and loved in the dance community and was passionate about teaching and encouraging others to dance.
Allen is survived by his daughter, Katherine Brown; sons, Daniel Brown and Justin Brown, all of Richmond, VA and Maxwell Brown of Westborough, MA; sisters, Barbara Harvey of Virginia Beach, VA, Elaine Moore of Lake Monticello, VA, Sharon Ryder of Rapidan, VA; brother, Wendell Brown of Scottsville, VA, the mother of his children, Maureen Brown of Richmond, VA and his loving companion, Angel Gates of Youngsville.
