Obituary of William Chappell
William G. Chappell, 79, passed away peacefully at home Sunday morning, February, 21 2010.
The family will receive friends at 1:00pm Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Montlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
A native of Wake County, William was born on January 1, 1931 to Gorman and Erna Chappell. William was a former member of the American legion and a longtime member of Caraleigh Baptist Church. He was a Korean War Veteran with the US Army "C" Company 38th Infantry Regiment, receiving the Purple Heart as well as the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Distinguished Unit Citation and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
William is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Chappell; daughters, Kathie Smith, husband Anthony of Clayton, Debra Johnson, husband Jack of Garner, Sherry Morgan, husband Stan of Clayton; son, Timothy Chappell, wife Jenny of Midlothian, VA; step-son, Hubert Tant, Jr., wife Barbara of Willow Springs; step-daughter, Sonja Tant Huff, husband Fayette of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, wife Paige of Garner, Ryan Johnson, wife Amanda of Wendell, Matthew Johnson, wife Jill of Dahlonega, GA ,Rebecca Smith, Amy Denton, Stuart Morgan, Stephen Morgan, Tyler Arnold, Austin Arnold, Morgan Arnold, Auburn Morgan, Will Morgan all of Clayton; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Norton, husband Warren of Linden, April Eason, husband Alan of Dunn; ten great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Chappell, wife Gayle of Safford, AZ; sister, Louise Yates, husband Hubert of Garner; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. William is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Norma Jean Creech Chappell in 1974; his step-grandson, Christopher Tant in 1996 and his brother, Willard Chappell.
