GARNER
William "Stan" Chesson, 77, passed away February 26, 2020. He leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn Horne Chesson; children and grandchildren Randy Chesson (Jennifer) of Clayton, Mathew Chesson (Stephanie) Evan, Aubrey, Jalyn, Raegan and Peyton of Wake Forest, step-daughters Lori Murphy (Jason) Saraphina, Leighelle of Raleigh and Amy St. Hilaire (Brandon) Ryan, Devin of Garner. He is preceded in death by his mom and dad Ellis and Marjorie Chesson of Robersonville.
Stan was a kind and gentle man who loved his family with a passion. He fought a long and brave battle with Parkinson's for the last decade and he was a champion. When Carolyn and Stan first met, he was a total creature of habit. Monday was Pizza Inn, Tuesday was Fat Daddy's and everyday he took a ham and cheese sandwich to work. He had a Monday-Friday work outfit and was shocked after Carolyn came along and he eventually mixed it up. He even ate at the cafeteria with her for lunch most days without getting the same thing, what a change! As time passed, they proved to be excellent caretakers for Stan's parents. They were in Robersonville every weekend making sure they were doing well and had what they needed. He was a truly loving son.
You can't speak of Stan without seeing he was devoted husband but also a wonderful father and Papa. He was gentle of guidance to all four of the kids and was always there with supporting love. He spent many a day watching his sons play sports and loved Pullen Park. He was a wonderful Papa and the grandchildren always refer to him as silly Papa. He would have a 'flex your muscle' contest and say anything to make them giggle.
He retired from the State as an accountant after 50 honorable years of service. They loved him so much that they asked to return to work after retirement and that really kept him going. The people he worked with became his extended family and he truly enjoyed his time there. He loved Elvis, dancing, NCSU, chocolate and funky socks. Many don't know he was a very funny man. He was a buttoned up quiet man with a wickedly dry sense of humor. He will be missed more than anyone can imagine.
