Obituary of William Colvin

William Russell "Bill" Colvin

April 24, 1920 - April 25, 2008

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was embraced into the arms of his Lord and Savior, and entered into her Heavenly Home where he has wanted to be, early Friday morning at the age of 88.

We are blessed to have had him in our lives for this long and give thanks to God for giving his peace, sight, and a pain free new life. Bill was also proud to have served in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1941. During his service he flew many missions including missions to and from Pearl Harbor and Hawaii during WWII as an aviator. He also earned several commendation medals for bravery and loyal service.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lawrence and Emma Ruth Young Colvin, his loving wife, Anna Grogan Colvin as well as a son, Edward Buren Lloyd and cherished family and friends. William and Anna were married August 18, 1949 and spent many wonderful years together not only as husband and wife but "best friends"!

Bill retired with Southern Elevator in Raleigh after leaving the Navy working on elevators all over the Triangle area and teaching many other beginning "adjusters" tools of the trade. He was best known for his knowledge of the maintenance of elevators as well as his involvement with the Union. He served once as the President of the Elevator Union.

William is survived by his daughters and sons, Ruth and Tommy Baucom, of Garner, and Patricia and Bernice Lee Williams, of Durham. He is also survived by his treasured, deeply loved grandsons, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren, Chuck Frazier, of Kennewas, GA, TJ Baucom, of Garner, Brandon and Kelly Sauls, (three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Connor, and Reid) of Holly Springs, Ryan and Crystal Sauls of Raleigh, Michael and Mary Jane Sauls, (two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kassidy, of Clayton) Karen Sauls, of Myrtle Beach, Ann and Allen Denning, (one great- grandchild, Tad) of Clayton, Susan Hill, Michael Hill, (two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Jennifer) of Clayton, and Joni and Marty Gower, (one great-grandchild, Marty) of Raleigh. A very special friend in his life and confidant was Jim Godwin of Raleigh.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Charles Wehbie, Boylan Medical Associates, Cary Cardiology, Garner EMS, Garner Fire Department, Rex Hospital, and the Caraleigh Baptist Church Family, as well as to our blessing from above who took care of Mama and Daddy and many of their needs for us for many months, days, and hours, their youngest granddaughter, Joni. Mama, Daddy, and Bluedog would not have been able to stay in their home they loved for so long without her love and devotion.
