William "James" Johnson,
87, of Raleigh NC transitioned peacefully on August 27, 2023.

Daddy was born October 6, 1935 in Duplin County NC, to the late Benjamin Sloan Johnson and Sallie Roberts Johnson. Daddy was predeceased by our mom, Doris Swinson Johnson after 59 years of marriage, and his sister, Melrose Parker of Clinton, NC.

Survivors: son, Lewis Johnson (Cathy), of Bailey NC, daughters, Terri Johnson McCreary of S.Pasadena, FL, and Kimberly Johnson Creech (Barry), of Raleigh NC, and a brother, Don Johnson, (Linda), of Clinton, NC. Grandchildren include Becky, Cameron, Grey, Brittany, Jake, Heather, and Joey and 7 great-grands. Daddy also had special nieces Debbie Love, Debbie Robertson and Connie Miller, that were like his own.

He was retired from NC State University after 35 years as a Research Farm Manager who studied milk production in dairy cattle, first on Western Blvd in the 60's,  then on Lake Wheeler Rd.  He was a longtime friend of Bill W. and made many friends on his successful 29 year journey with the program. He also helped many people along that journey. Daddy's humor and genuine care for others is going to be greatly missed.

A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, September 1, 2023 at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh at 12 pm.
