William "Billy" Roger Lane, 85, died peacefully on October 17, 2019. He was born
February 9, 1934.
Billy is preceded in death by his father Willie Percy Lane and mother Hallie Rogers Lane,
wife Bernell Causey Lane and brothers Rhemar Percy Lane and David Carlton Lane. He
is survived by three children: Pat Lane, Roger Lane (Madeline) and Charles Lane (Ann);
grandchildren: Ray Richardson (Brian), Gregory Lane (Luanne), Amanda Alves (Jorge),
Christie Richards (Cameron) and David Lane; great-grandchildren: Will Lane, Weatherly
Lane, Madison Alves, Jaxon Alves; numerous nieces and nephews. Billy is survived by a
brother Jerry Lane (Sharon), sisters-in-law Pansi Lane and Sue Lane.
Billy learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm in Marion County, South
Carolina, where he met the love of his life Bernell. Billy and Bernell married in 1952 and
moved to Raleigh in 1956, where Billy was involved in many interests. Billy enjoyed
boating, fishing, concession work and helping others in need without seeking
recognition. Billy retired from the US Postal Service, where he served in several
capacities and made many lifelong friends. Billy also enjoyed many friends from the
Marion County area, as well as friends he and Bernell shared. After the passing of
Bernell in 2017, Billy resided at the Woodland Terrace Community in Cary, where he
developed many special friendships.
Visitation will be held with the family at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, 4926
Fayetteville Rd Raleigh, NC 27603 on Sunday, October 20, from 1:30-3:00 P.M. Funeral
service will follow visitation at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church at 3:00 P.M. Graveside
service will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Ernest Myatt
Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice in Billy's memory.
