William James Monroe
William James Monroe, 85, of Raleigh, died February 16, 2009.
A private funeral service will be held at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday at Ridge Road Baptist Church.
A native of Scotland County, William was born on April 25, 1923 to the late Archie Marshall and Katherine Blue Monroe. He was a retired sales manager with MetLife and a long time member of Ridge Road Baptist Church. William served as a Captain in the U. S. Army Air Corps flying the B-17 Bomber with the Air Transport Command.
William is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marian Harrill Monroe; son, William James Monroe, Jr. of Raleigh; daughter, Kimberly Monroe Fowler and her husband, Richard Dale Fowler of Zebulon; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Monroe Whitten.
