Obituary of William Warren

William P. "Bill' Warren, 57, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at his home.

Born in Buncombe County, NC to the late William P. Warren, Sr., and Florence H. "Dixie" Warren, he resided in Cary, NC and worked in the Research Triangle for the past 30 years. He retired from IBM in 2012 and was currently employed by Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, Inc.

Bill graduated from Enka High School in Candler, NC, and had bachelor degrees from NC State University in Education and Engineering Operations. After his co-op with IBM he was hired full-time and began work in Raleigh; was transferred briefly to Kingston, NY and Lexington, KY, before settling in Cary where he was promoted to a position with IBM in the Research Triangle Park. When his job function was spun off to Toshiba USA in 2012 Bill retired from IBM and went to Toshiba with his team.

An avid antique car enthusiast, Bill spent a lot of his spare time restoring Triumph sports cars, his most recent being a 1959 TR-3. He could do almost anything with his hands once he set his mind to it and made much of the furniture in his house. Most of his time, however, was spent on two wheels with a group of cyclists known as the "Selma Cyclepaths" riding to raise money for the National MS Society. With his wife, Cole and son Isaac, and the Cyclepaths he covered many, many miles all over North Carolina training and competing to raise money for the cause.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cole Pittman Warren, sons Hunter Warren of Greenville, NC, Isaac Warren of Raleigh. Sisters Dr. Rebecca Davidson of Ithaca, NY, Christina (Robert) Auman of Columbia, SC. In addition his beloved family-in-law Jerry and Priss Pittman, Blake and Libby Pittman and Quint and Paige Harris, all of Birmingham, AL, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill loved his family and incorporated them in every aspect of living - in the garage, shop and on the road with his fellow cyclists. He lived life to the fullest and is missed.

Visitation at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, Cary, NC, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9; Memorial service at the same location at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10.
