Obituary of Winfred Ivey

Winfred Landon Ivey, Sr., 90, of Raleigh, passed away on February 25, 2010 at Blue Ridge Health Care Center in Raleigh.

There will be a graveside service in Montlawn Memorial Park at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

Landon is survived by his loving wife, Bertha, known to everyone as Bert, to whom he was married for 69 years, his son W. Landon Ivey, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and two daughters, Jane Ivey Carrison of Hillsborough, NC and Anne Ivey White of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Jim Satterwhite, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Ivey McKernan and Steven White, both of Dallas, TX. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Cameron Satterwhite of Jacksonville, FL; and Elizabeth and Meredith McKernan, both of Dallas, TX. He is survived by three brothers, Joel "Jake" Ivey of Aberdeen, NC, Lynwood Ivey of Chattanooga, TN, Arthur Ivey of Sunset Beach, NC and two sisters, Grace Brigman of Aberdeen, NC, and Evelyn Todd of Charlotte, NC.

Landon is preceded in death by his parents, Haynes Kelly and Estelle Scott Ivey; brother, Haynes Kelly Ivey, Jr., sisters, Sally Ivey, Mildred Lovette, and Martha Webb. He was also predeceased by two of his children, Herbert Kelly Ivey and Carol Scott Ivey.

A World War II veteran, Landon retired after 42 years with the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Landon and Bert shared a love for golf, camping at the beach and received great satisfaction in their love of gardening and consistently receiving the neighborhood award for yard-of-the-month.
