Zelda Cohen, 92, died peacefully in her home on July 31, 2021. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 17, 1929 to Joseph Paymer and Anna Eisen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Cohen; her sisters, Rhoda Sklar and Florence Applebaum; and her brother, Seymour Paymer.

A doting mother and attentive housewife, Zelda often boasted of her professional endeavors. Her career included stints at a New York City furrier and as a typist for the U.S. Army.

She made her home and raised her family in Port Jervis, NY. She met her future husband at a social event in the Catskills and married on March 31, 1952. In Port Jervis, she participated actively in her community synagogue of Temple Beth El, and hit the links regularly at the local country club. She was a member of the Board of Visitors at the Middletown State Psychiatric Hospital in Middletown, NY. During her later years, she played bridge avidly at Waltonwood Cary Parkway in Cary, NC.

Zelda proudly bore three children: her sons, Jeffrey (Ellen) Cohen and Bryan Cohen, and her daughter Lisa (Lyndon) Cooper. She was equally devoted to her grandchildren: Paige, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Henry Cohen; Jonathan and Jack Cohen, and Austin and Alex Cooper.

The family will hold services in her memory 11am August 2, 2021 at Temple Beth Shalom, 5713 Yates Mill Pond Rd, Raleigh, NC. Burial will immediately follow at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N State St, Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will take place 9am August 3, 2021 at Waltonwood Assisted Living, 760 SE Cary Pkwy, Cary, NC. The family will sit shiva the evening of August 7, 2021.
